Happy Winter!
Although we are in the middle of winter, a time when there isn't much change and growth outside, we are seeing tremendous changes and growth here at Blanchard. Kindergarten students are beginning to read and write, first and second graders are reading more complex text every day, third through fifth graders are using their reading skills to analyze literature, figure out complex math problems, and understand science concepts like the Periodic Table of Elements! Wow! It is amazing how everything revolves around reading!
At Blanchard we believe that it is a solid partnership between students, parents and school that enables students to grow successfully. That is why it is so important to get involved. Parents are a child's first teacher, so the time parents spend with their children is precious! Take a few minutes to read to your child EVERY DAY! That is the best gift you could give your child. Take time to have discussions about the books you read together. Even fifth graders enjoy hearing a good book. Go to your public library and see the amazing selection of books waiting to be explored.
Just recently, Blanchard held a parent education night which focused on literacy for kinder students. It was a huge success. We hope to have more evenings like the one we had. You can look forward to Read Across America Week and the celebration of the birthday of Dr. Seuss in March. In the meantime, get involved with your child's education. Talk with your child's teacher to see how you can help your child at home. Your child needs your help and support. They are counting on you!
Sincerely,
Ms. Mary Fennell
